Where Is The Hypogastric Region

Abdominal Quadrants:

The belly is anatomically divided past two horizontal lines and two vertical lines. These lines when intersect each other, make nine abdominal quadrants.
The 2 horizontal lines are:

Nine Abdominal Regions
Nine Intestinal Regions

The upper horizontal line also called transpyloric line is midway between xiphisternum and bellybutton.

The lower horizontal line also called transtubercular line is the line joining the iliac crest tubercles of each side near 5cm behind the inductive superior iliac spine.

These ii horizontal lines divide the belly into three horizontal zones that are upper, central and lower.

The vertical lines are drawn on either side through the midpoint betwixt anterior superior iliac spine and symphysis pubis.

These two vertical lines are mid-clavicular lines which intersect the horizontal lines dividing the abdomen into nine intestinal quadrants or regions viz:

  1. Right hypochondrium
     Nine Quadrants of the Abdomen
    Nine Quadrants of the Belly
  2. Epigastrium
  3. Left hypochondrium
  4. Right lumbar region
  5. Umbilical region
  6. Left lumbar region
  7. Right iliac fossa
  8. Hypogastrium
  9. Left iliac fossa

Please refer to the diagram.

If we divide abdomen into regions and so in  9 quadrants of abdomen there will be iii regions in abdomen and these volition be upper region, Central region and lower or bottom region and each region will contain iii quadrants of belly. The iii regions are following:

A. Meridian region of abdomen
Right hypochondrium.
Epigastrium
Left hypochondrium.

B. Central Region Of abdomen
Right lumbar region
Umbilical region
Left lumbar region

C. Lower Region / Bottom region
Right iliac fossa
Hypogastrium
Left iliac fossa

Organs lying in abdominal quadrants:

Abdominal Organs
